One of the Most Valuable Paintings in the World is a Nude

It happened this week....a painting depicting a lounging nude woman which was once viewed as highly controversial by Italian artist, Amedeo Modigliani has become the one of the most expensive artworks ever to sell at auction.  The work entitled, Nu Couché, sold for $157.2 million at Sotheby's New York Monday evening, which is the highest auction price in the establishment's history and one of the highest sums for a painting to date in the art world.

Interestingly enough, I'd been experimenting with minimalistic pen and ink drawings of nudes and enjoy the challenge of depicting the body in its simplest form.  Perhaps one day my work will make it to an auction house...original art always has that potential so buy originals!
